What is an 80D23L battery
This is a medium power lead acid type battery model with dimensions consistent with Asian standard. It is designed to be used as a starter battery on various passenger car models, including Acura, Infiniti, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota and other Japanese and Korean brands.
This battery is equipped with ASIA type cone-shaped terminals with a plus terminal diameter of 12.7 mm and a negative terminal diameter of 11.1 mm. The cathode in model 80D23L is on the left.

The JIS D 5301 alphanumeric code, which is used to mark batteries, uses the following system:
- the first two digits are the value corresponding to electrical power. The larger the number, the higher the capacitance and cold scroll current. In this case, the battery capacity ranges from 65-68 Ah, and the starting current is from 490 to 550 amperes;
- the letter D indicates a width of 175 mm and a height of 200 mm on the battery;

In addition, the following data should be indicated on battery housings made to the Japanese standard:

- a 4-digit code in which the first two indicate the month, and the last - the year of issue;
- letter designation for battery maintenance:
- MF - low-maintenance, in which it is necessary to top up with distilled water once every six months - a year;
- CMF - fully maintenance free batterywhich, under normal operating conditions, topping up the electrolyte is not required. Periodically, you need to check the electrolyte level and, if necessary, add distilled water through a special hole;
- SMF is a sealed maintenance-free battery in which electrolyte losses are so small that there is no need to check its level over its entire life.
Important! Cheaper MF series batteries eventually lose some of the water in the electrolyte due to plate degradation, moisture loss through the valves during overcharging and overheating. A decrease in their electrolyte level below the permissible value can lead to oxidation of the plates, swelling of the lamellas and their subsequent short circuit or destruction.
The CMF series has an average cost and optimum performance.
The SMF series batteries are the most expensive, but their cost is justified due to their longer life, better resistance to adverse influences such as vibration, temperature rise, periodic strong discharges and overcharging.
