The car’s battery is constantly charging during engine operation, but not in all cases it manages to fully restore the charge. In winter, many additional electrical appliances are used, and if the driver travels not long distances, sooner or later the battery will sit down. In addition, in the cold, the capacity indicator decreases. Therefore, it is important to have a good memory, for example Cedar Auto 5.

Device Overview
The charger Cedar Auto 5 is made in a plastic case. An ammeter is located on the left side of the front panel, which indicates the current value of the charging current. On the right side are two buttons of the operating modes - “Automatic” and “Cycle”. Above the buttons you can see two LED indicators that during operation show which of the modes is on.
On the rear panel are the power cord and two cords with clamps for connecting a rechargeable battery. The device has openings for free air circulation. This is necessary to avoid overheating of circuit elements.
Technical characteristics of the device Cedar Auto 5
The charger has an impressive range of permissible supply voltage. This suggests that in the process of charging the battery, monitoring the status can be minimized.
Characteristic | Value |
---|---|
Voltage | 170-240 volts |
Maximum charge current | 5 Amp |
Charge voltage | 15 volt |
Charge algorithm | Smooth current reduction |
Power consumption | up to 100 watts |
Battery Voltage Rating | 12 volt |
Suitable for charging batteries | WET only |
Rechargeable battery capacity | from 14 to 190 A / h |
Ammeter | Switch |
Dimensions | 185x130x90 mm |
Weight | 600 grams |
Important! Although the manufacturer claims that it is possible to charge batteries with a capacity of up to 190 A / h, it will take a lot of time. The best option would be a battery with a capacity of up to 55A / h.
Features of the device and for which battery is intended
Based on the maximum charging current, this device can be used to service batteries with a capacity of up to 55 A / h. But, as practice shows, a small current charge has a positive effect on the battery life for a long time. Therefore, Cedar Auto 5 can be used to charge batteries with a capacity of up to 100 Ah.
The charge process in automatic mode proceeds as follows:
- When connecting the battery to the output terminals of the device, the maximum current is supplied to it - 5A;
- During the charge, the battery voltage rises, and the current decreases, which can be seen from the ammeter;
- After the end of the charge, the current decreases to the minimum value and the “charge” mode is established, as a result of which the battery is charged with a small current. "Recharge" allows you to charge the battery as much as possible, which is unattainable for devices with automatic shutdown.
In the "Cycle" mode, the charge periods alternate with a low-current discharge. The ratio of the charge / discharge time is 45 / 15sec.
The device provides protection against reverse polarity and connection of a fully discharged battery. In such cases, the output current is completely absent.
How to charge the battery
To charge the battery, connect it to the terminals with the correct polarity. After connecting the device to an electrical outlet, you need to select the operating mode by pressing the corresponding button. The indicator should light above the button.
The ammeter in the initial period of time should be within 5 A.In the absence of ammeter readings, you must once again check the correct connection of the battery and check the voltage at its terminals.
Attention! With a voltage of less than 10 V at the battery terminals, the built-in charger protection will prevent it from turning on.
To carry out desulfation, the “Cycle” mode is used. Additionally, it is necessary to connect the load to the terminals parallel to the battery. The magnitude of the load is 0.5 - 1A. You can use a car bulb 12V 6-12W.

Recently I purchased the Cedar Auto 5 charger on the market. I’m satisfied with the ease of charging, full automation.

What I did not like about Cedar 5 is that it cannot be used as a power source. Yes, and the problem with the charge of deep-seated batteries. However, if you do not allow a strong discharge and do not be lazy to look into the car, then Cedar fully justifies itself.

Instead of a broken charger with manual adjustment, I bought a Cedar Auto 5 “Automatic”. At first it was unusual that adjustments were not needed, but then I got used to it. It is only strange that manufacturers did not bother to install fuses. Situations are different.
