Device Overview
Orion Pennant 55 is made in a plastic case with dimensions 155x85x200 mm and has a mass of only 1 kg. The device is controlled using 4 buttons. The horizontal arrow buttons are used to select menu items and record results. Buttons with vertical arrows allow you to change parameter values.
Information is displayed on a multi-line liquid crystal display. The indicator has large characters and bright backlight, so the information is read well in any outdoor lighting. On the front panel there is also a power on toggle switch, which has an indication of the on state.

Features of the device and for which battery is intended
There are a huge number of chargers. ZU Pennant 55 production NPP "Orion" is different in that it is based on a microcontroller control circuit. Using a microcontroller made it possible to use pre-programmed charge algorithms to work with most known types of batteries.
During operation, the set current and voltage are monitored, which eliminates electrolyte boiling and overcharging, so the device can be used to charge almost all types of batteries:
- 6 volt battery;
- 12V car batteries;
- 12V automotive AGM, EFB and GEL;
- Deep Cycle, Boat and Traction;
- Acidic calcium batteries;
- Alkaline batteries;
- Sealed acid batteries.
The device can be used as an adjustable source of current and voltage to power third-party consumers. Manual parameter setting allows you to charge any type of battery with a boundary voltage of no more than 18 V and a minimum allowable charge current of 0.5 A, including alkaline batteries.
It is possible to use the device in pre-start mode, when it is urgent to start the car engine.The battery does not disconnect from the on-board network.
To restore the battery capacity, cyclic charging is used when charge cycles with short-term low-current discharge alternate. This mode allows you to get rid of the effects of sulfation, since during the cyclic charging, large crystals of lead sulfate dissolve.
In addition to those listed in the technical specifications, there are additional functions, such as:
- Saving predefined work profiles;
- View charge statistics;
- Automatic on-off by the built-in timer (delayed start);
- Time limit;
- Indication of current parameters of charge and time;
- Ability to connect a fully discharged battery;
- Battery capacity recovery.
The device is made with a degree of protection IP20, which requires its use in rooms protected from moisture.
Auto Charge
For automatic charging, use the arrow buttons to select the desired profile and algorithm, set the voltage and charge current corresponding to the battery used, and turn on the device in the network. At the end of the charge, the device will either turn off the battery or enter the charge mode with low current.
It is possible to select any of the five algorithms by setting the current and voltage values for each of them.

Before you start charging you need:
- Connect the device to AC power;
- Set the necessary charge parameters.
- Disconnect the memory from the network.
- Connect the rechargeable batteries to the device terminals, observing the polarity.
- Enable memory.
Manual Charge
The memory Orion Pennant 55 also has the ability to make changes to the preset work algorithms and create your own. Such actions require knowledge of what needs to be obtained at the output of the device. Therefore, such actions are recommended to be performed only by experienced electricians and car enthusiasts who are well acquainted with the principle of battery operation.
Using memory as a source of current or voltage is possible when choosing the first algorithm.

During operation, it is impossible to block the ventilation grilles in the housing, since this will lead to overheating of the control circuit elements and to an emergency shutdown of the device. Use in dusty rooms requires dust to be cleaned on the inside and fan blades.
Important! During the warranty period, opening the case is prohibited by the manufacturer, so cleaning can only be done by blowing.
